The Role Of Women Part 3

There are a number of aspects of the role of women that were not covered earlier. We will look at these things now.

Ideally a husband should love his wife, but that isn't always the case. When a husband treats his wife poorly, how is she to respond? The Bible answers this in 1 Peter 3:1 which says, "In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives." The only time a wife should disobey her husband is when he commands her to do something sinful. (Acts 5:29)

A sister in Christ should clothe herself with good works, and not with the immodest fashions. "Let not your adornment be merely external-braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses, but let it be of the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality. Of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God." (1 Peter 3:3-4) Paul agrees with Peter here. "Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly garments; but rather by means of good works, as befits women making a claim to godliness." (1 Timothy 2:9-10)

If in church a woman has a question, she is to ask her husband at home. "And if they desire to learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home; for it is improper for a woman to speak in church." (1Corinthians 14:35)

The overall role of women is summed up in Titus 2:3-5. "Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips, nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be dishonored."
